How do you see yourself?
Do you think of yourself as just an “ordinary person” born into this world?
Or perhaps you’ve had moments in the chaos of life where you suddenly ask yourself, “Why am I even living?”
Ephesians 2:10 gives a clear and powerful answer to these questions:
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
(Ephesians 2:10)
This short verse is not just religious comfort or a nice little encouragement.
It is a declaration about identity. A proclamation of purpose.
And every time I meditate on this passage, I experience a deep sense of restored self-worth.

You Are a “Masterpiece” – Not Just a Human Being
The key phrase in Ephesians 2:10 is “We are His workmanship.”
In the original Greek, the word translated as “workmanship” is poiēma (ποίημα).
This word means “work of art,” “poem,” or “a creation infused with intention and emotion.”
Does that even make sense?
It means God didn’t mass-produce humans like mechanical parts.
He handcrafted each one as a unique masterpiece.
Even if what you’re doing right now feels trivial,
Even if your life feels broken, even if you feel unnecessary or invisible to others—
God says this to you:
“You are My masterpiece.”
This is where everything must begin.
When you truly embrace the statement, “I am God’s masterpiece,”
your entire attitude and direction in life can shift.
Created to Do “Good Works”
Here’s the second point:
“Created in Christ Jesus to do good works.”
God didn’t just create us so we could live a nice life and be kind people.
He already pre-set the path of good works for us.
Surprisingly, “good works” here isn’t just about morally good behavior.
In the context of the whole Bible, good works mean
loving, caring, living truthfully, and becoming a light to others through your life.
And God says He prepared those good works in advance.
In other words, the path you’re on isn’t random.
The job you’re doing, the people you meet, the situations you’re facing—
they are not coincidences.
They are part of a divine plan.

It Doesn’t Matter How Broken You Are
Someone once asked me,
“But I’ve done so many wrong things. My past is such a mess. This verse doesn’t really speak to me.”
And I answered:
“Regardless of how broken you are, God still calls you His masterpiece.”
A true work of art doesn’t lose value because of flaws.
In fact, flaws make it real.
Many of Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches are unfinished, but they’re worth hundreds of millions.
Why? Because of who made them.
No matter what mistakes you’ve made,
No matter how chaotic your life may feel right now,
God still calls you poiēma.
This isn’t just religious fluff.
It is one of the deepest insights into human existence.
Even the Fact That You’re Reading This May Be “Prepared Work”
Think about it.
What led you to click on this article? The timing? Your state of mind?
Is that really just a coincidence?
You were not born by accident.
You are living inside a planned life,
And God’s eyes have never once lost sight of you.
I’ve felt that time and time again.
Every time I wanted to give up,
A word from someone, a book, a short message—those things lifted me back up.
That’s how I keep living. And that’s why I wrote this.
You Are Not Just a Simple Being
Let’s go back to the verse.
“For we are God’s workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus to do good works,
which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
(Ephesians 2:10)
If it feels too abstract or complicated, let me rephrase it in one sentence:
“You are God’s masterpiece, born for a role that only you can fulfill.”
Can you imagine a more clear and powerful definition of life?
One Question for You Today
Close your eyes for a moment and reflect.
What identity are you living with right now?
Are you just someone trying to survive?
Or are you someone living as a masterpiece?
Those two approaches to life are worlds apart.
A person living as a masterpiece believes their words and actions have meaning.
Even now, they believe God has prepared “good works” for their life.
That belief becomes the strength and compass of life.
In Closing – I Hope You Remember This
You are God’s masterpiece.
You’re not just a survivor—you’re a meaningful creation.
And being a “masterpiece” doesn’t just mean you’re “special.”
It means you have a purpose in life.
To find it, believe it, and walk in it—
That is what faith is.
That is what life is.
